IT proved a game of missed chances for Ross Juniors Women, as they opened their new Mid West Counties League campaign with a 3-2 loss at home to Redditch Borough on Sunday.

But they will want to bounce straight back this Sunday (September 20) when they host Somerset outfit Yate in the Women’s Adobe FA Cup second round of qualifying at the Sports Centre, kick-off 2pm.

Last season, Juniors pipped Redditch to third in the table in the last game, but Redditch secured revenge at the start of the new one, saving a penalty that would have given the hosts a draw.

Juniors created numerous chances, showed great character and never stopped fighting.

Goals from Millie Malsom and Lauren Creed gave them hope, and it looked like their efforts would be rewarded when they were awarded a late penalty, but the chance was spurned.

But having already beaten Bristol West and Bristol Brunel in previous qualifying rounds of the FA Cup, they are hoping for a good crowd this Sunday to help them push on in the prestigious national competition.

Meanwhile, defending champions Ross Juniors Ladies made a flying start to their new Herefordshire Women’s League campaign, beating hosts Newtown Sports 12-0.

They next visit Westfields Ladies on Sunday, September 27.
