ROSS Juniors Women held their End of Season Awards Night at the Sports Centre after an incredible season showing maturity beyond their years.

The team of teenagers, except one over-19 player, finished a very respectable third in their first season in Tier 7, playing in the Mid West Female Counties League, just behind Hereford FC and Kingfisher FC, and ahead of the likes of Kidderminster United and Redditch Borough.

They also reached the quarter-final of the County Cup and made history as the first ever team to represent the club in the women’s Adobe FA Cup, when they hosted Royal Wooton Bassett Ladies.

And although the result didn't go their way, it was a fantastic occasion at the Sports Ground enjoyed by a crowd of more than 200.

By far the youngest team in the league and with the smallest squad, Juniors Women used only 18 players all season, and finished with a very respectable 18 wins, five draws and five losses.

A club spokesperson said: "We started the season with six 16 year olds and four 17 year olds in our squad, and they’ve all proved, if you're good enough, you're old enough.

"Each game, Carl (Roberts) would pick a coach's player of the game and ask the opposition to do so as well and these were counted up at the end of season.”

Awards were presented to:

Coach's Player of the Season – Macy Walker and Millie Malsom (joint);

Manager Carl Roberts said: "We look forward to building on our excellent efforts and progress we made this season and are excited to welcome some new young players from our U16s to the squad.

"Lastly, we would like to recognise our sponsors, without whom these things wouldn’t be possible – 21Wellbeing, a fantastic local gym and highly recommended; HP Scaffolding Ltd, a highly reputable company, serving the local community and beyond; The Hope and Anchor, a fantastic pub which sits on the lovely River Wye and well worth a visit; and Pronto’s Pizza Kebab, a delicious kebab shop in Ross-on-Wye, who kindly provided food on the night.

"We look forward to continuing our relationship with you all for many years to come."

Pre-season training has already begun and anyone who would like to go along to the squad's sessions and see what they are about is welcome.
