Ross Juniors is indebted to The New Grove Trust for supplying kit to its ‘Walking Football’ team that started this year.

Walking football is designed to help people keep an active lifestyle, irrespective of their age, as well as providing opportunities for people to get back into football who perhaps had to stop due to injuries. Their target range is adults aged from 50. Walking football - played just like ‘real’ football but at a slower pace - is the latest idea to help older men and women to improve their health and fitness. Walking football has become increasingly popular and is suitable for people who may have mobility problems which stop them playing faster paced games.

Ross Juniors FC has a small number of players at the moment (male and female), aged from mid 50s to mid 70s who train, and this number is growing. The club sees this as a natural progression, from its juniors and senior teams. If you interested in joining, please contact Ron Goulding on 01989 750546.

Research has shown that older people who keep active have more muscle, harder bones, better cardiovascular systems and more jumping height and strength. The latter especially applies to women. They also have lower heart rate and blood pressure, less fat and better oxygen absorption, and their leg bones have more mineral content, which for women reduces the risk of osteoporosis. And walking football is an aid to this. Ross Juniors FC wants to be at the forefront of this in the county.
