For the last few seasons, Ross Juniors Football Club have fielded a men’s football team, which played in the North Gloucestershire League. The team has grown substantially, and last year they were very successful in winning a Cup, and they also came second in the league; gaining a promotion. For the 2016/17 season they will be playing alongside Weston under Penyard in Division Three of the league.
With the club’s ever growing and blossoming junior section, the Ross Juniors Committee have found that only having one men’s side, for a town the size of Ross, is not enough, and they have been working hard on forming another men’s side. After much searching, a coach was found; Marcin Jaworski who is a Level 2 FA coach.
Marcin impressed the Committee immediately with his ideas and his enthusiasm to start a new side in the town. The club are also very keen to be represented in the Herefordshire League, alongside the other market towns within the county, so the team has applied to join Division Two of the new county league for the forthcoming season.
The first training session has taken place, and the club were delighted to see 18 hopeful players attend. There was a real mix of players that have recently come through the clubs junior section, some more experienced local players, those new to the area looking for a team, and those from the Eastern European community.
The mix worked well, and this gives the club hope that this new team, which is in its infancy, will, alongside the other local men’s sides, be a welcome addition to local football.
Jim Loftus, the Club’s Chairman commented: “It was a very positive start, the players enjoyed the training and the interaction between everyone was very impressive, as many of those attending did not know each other prior to the night’s training. We hope this will help us to continue to grow men’s football in Ross and give our junior players another team to aspire to play for.”
