The Ladies section of Ross Juniors Football Club celebrated being awarded a substantial grant from Postcode Community Trust. The funding included new kit, polo shirts, training jackets, balls and bibs.

The Ladies section started just over a year ago and has been very successful. The club offers weekly training sessions and the occasional friendly game. The sessions are organised for the Ladies to have fun and encourage woman to participate in exercise and sport through football. New skills and disciplines are introduced and the players are encouraged to keep fit and healthy.

Girls football is an area that the club has recently developed successfully. As a club they are conscious that girls often stop sport altogether when they reach their teens and intend to help address this national issue on a local level. The Ladies team gives the girls teams a pathway to continue to play sport when they reach the age of 16.

Since starting the girls section four years ago, Ross Juniors FC now has the largest female group in the county.

A member of the Ladies, Nicola Wall told the Ross Gazette: “The new kit gives us a great identity and we now feel like a real team. The coaches are amazing and they have taught me loads of new skills. I can’t wait to get started again in the new year.” One of the younger members of the squad, Beth Howells, said:?“My Under 16 team had stopped, so this new team has allowed me to carry on playing football. I have met some terrific people and the coaches are the best I have ever had.”

The new kit was presented at an event hosted at the Royal Hotel by the manager, Sally Perkins who is also one of the key players of the team. Anyone who wold like to join the Ladies team should attend a training session at John Kyrle High School on a Friday evening at 6pm. The first in the new year will be on Friday, January 6th.
