Newent Town Football Club played in the Final of the Reg Davis Trophy for the first time in the club’s 95 year history. The match was played on Wednesday, September 30th, at Slimbridge Football Club.
Newent played against a very strong Stonehouse team, who are currently sat on top of the Northern Senior league. It was no real surprise when Stonehouse raced into a 2-0 lead after just 15 minutes.
But back came Newent dominating the next half hour, although they did not manage to actually score a goal.
In the second half, Newent scored on the hour and amazingly equalised near the end, taking it into extra time at 2-2.
Unfortunately, Newent had a player sent off and had to play the extra half hour with only ten players. But with just three minutes left, and people in the crowd talking about a penalty shoot out, Newent scored the winner. Sending their players and supporters into wild celebrations and leaving Stonehouse absolutely stunned.
