NEWENT Town booked their place in the next round of the Gloucestershire FA County Cup with a 2–0 win over Frampton United at Wildsmith Meadow on Tuesday night in front of a lively home crowd.
The Daffs were made to work hard for the result in what was a tight and competitive contest under the lights.
Both sides created chances in a lively first half, with Kyle Taylor going close for the hosts when his header flashed just wide of the post, while Frampton impressed with their organised defending and sharp counter attacks.
The game remained goalless at the break, but Newent started the second half strongly and hit the post early on before finally making the breakthrough.
Isaac Cooper found the net to put the Daffs ahead, sparking relief among the home supporters as Newent began to take control.
Frampton pushed forward in search of an equaliser, forcing the hosts to defend deep at times, but Newent sealed the win late on when Dylan Hart struck to make it 2–0.
There was still time for a near miss as the Daffs hit the post again, but the result was already comfortably secure.
