Ross Juniors U12s put in a superb performance to record an excellent win away at Phoenix on Sunday.

Right from the start Ross threatened the Phoenix goal as Jayden outpaced their defence but his shot was well saved. As the half wore on, Phoenix started to put pressure on Ross but the visitors kept them at bay with some dogged defending. Midway through the half the home side were awarded a penalty but Roo pulled off a spectacular save and his team-mates reacted quickly to clear the ball to ensure the game remained goalless at the break.

Phoenix continued to press in the second half but Ross defended well and were always a threat on the break with Ollie and Jake working tirelessly. Both teams defended well and it felt like it would take something special to break the deadlock and it was the visitors who grabbed the vital goal as Harvey finished excellently from a through ball to put Ross ahead. Jake nearly increased the visitor’s lead when his long range shot hit the post. Phoenix tried desperately to grab an equaliser but Roo made some more great saves, and the stubborn Ross defence led by Bill, Josh and JT, with David protecting them in midfield, kept Phoenix at bay, so they were restricted to shots from distance.

With some great saves, including the penalty, the Saltrock Scaffolding Man of the Match award went to Roo Tighe.
