Ross Juniors U12s travelled to Hereford on Sunday morning to kick off their HGTA league campaign, playing against a side they drew 0 – 0 with 8 weeks ago. However, this game could not have been more different.
The visitors started well, with Ollie having a shot saved and David going close with a shot from distance before Ollie’s pass sent Jake through on goal to put Ross 1 up. However, Pegasus equalised with a rather fortunate shot and took the lead before half time with a great strike.
After the break, Jake set up a great chance for Jayden, but his shot was well saved and then Ross went 3 – 1 down when a pass out of defence was intercepted.
Ross pulled a goal back when Jayden’s powerful shot was saved but not held by the home keeper, and Jake was on hand to grab his second goal of the game. Ross went in search of an equaliser and Jayden went on a good run. Ollie had a shot saved before Roo was called upon to keep the Ross from falling further behind.
The game was really open with both teams pushing players forward. Bill fired over from close range following an indirect free kick, before Roo was forced to make another vital save. Unfortunately Ross fell further behind from a corner but responded immediately when Harvey’s angled shot was diverted into their own net by a Pegasus defender.
Again Ross searched for an equaliser with Harvey and Bill both getting close, but the game was put beyond them with goal conceded from a direct free kick.
There were some great battling performances with David doing well in midfield and Jake taking his goals well but the ‘Saltrock Scaffolding Man of the Match’ was awarded to Jayden Powell with some great runs that threatened the opposition’s defence all game.
