Ross Juniors U15s ended their season on a high with a gritty 1:0 win against visitors from Redditch. As always, the Ross-on-Wye side were positive from the kick-off, pushing the Reds deep into their own half with darting runs from Josh and Joel. The breakthrough came on the quarter hour with a move of sheer class. Luke slid an inch perfect pass through the Redditch defence leaving Owain one-on-one with the goalie.
Cool as a cucumber, the Ross forward lofted the ball over the keeper into the waiting net. Despite being a goal behind, the visitors proved hard to break down and played their way back into the game.
After losing Elliott to injury the Ross defence were under pressure, but the back line of Freddie, Nathaniel and Tommy held firm despite a few shaky moments. However Kane was on good form in goal and never looked troubled.
In the second half the Juniors again played some good football with Wilf, Joel and Jordan linking well with the forwards, even if a second goal didn’t materialise. Ross finished the season in the top half of the highly competitive Midland Junior Premier League, a decent position after their excellent early season form was disrupted by numerous postponed games in January and February. Credit goes to all the lads and the coaching staff for keeping going in difficult conditions.
