The new Ross Juniors Ladies Football Team took on Welland Ladies Football Club, from Worcester, in their first proper game on Friday, February 12th at John Kyrle High School.

There was a great turnout on a cold evening, and the crowd was entertained by some skillful play from both sides.

The atmosphere was much warmer than the weather and both teams, and the spectators enjoyed a good match.

Advertised in advance as a Valentine’s Weekend Massacre it was not a complete whitewash, as Ross Ladies managed to score one goal against the Mighty Welland’s eight. The Ross goal scorer was Nicole Lewis.

There were lots of substitutions made, during the game on Friday night, in order to give all the Ross footballers a chance to show off their talents.

The joint honours for Lady of the Match went to Michelle ‘Minnie’ Hodges and Sally Perkins.

Ross Juniors Chairman Jim Loftus told the Ross Gazette:?“It is amazing to think that just a couple of months ago Ross Juniors FC did not have a women’s team, and now there are 28 women playing and training regularly together. New members are also welcome.”
