Ross Ladies A Team faced Manor Park at home on Sunday, June 16th. Brenda Saunders and Val Davies made a meal of their first match but managed to secure a 6-4, 7-6 result. Playing second pair were Jane Pepperell and Sandy Foulkes who got their teeth into the third pair and won easily 6-2, 6-0. On court two the Ross third pair Gaynor and Ginny, took the first set 6-3 and then had a difficult second set with long rallies and deep hitting, which they unfortunately lost 5-7. All eyes were on them for the third set – a very tight affair which Manor Park secured 6-7.

After a break for refreshments, the Ross first pair made short work of their second couple, only losing two games due to a superb variety of shots by Brenda. Meanwhile Jane and Sandy had a sizzling match against their first pair with some unbelievable rallies drawing applause from the audience of two! Two crucial breaks of serve gave the Ross pair the match 6-4, 6-4. After the length of their first match Gaynor and Ginny were determined to deal with the third couple quickly, and did so 6-0, 6-4.

Captain Lynn O’Driscoll was very pleased with her team’s performance; a 5-1 victory was a strong performance against a good team. The ladies posed for a photo without Jane Pepperrell who had to leave early.
