Following two recent home defeats that spelled the derailment of their title challenge, the Ross Junior Girls Under 12s returned to winning ways against a much improved Lad’s Club Vixens Under 12s outfit.
However, this match wasn’t all plain sailing. A rather lack lustre first half display in which a superb strike from the Vixens midfielder sailed over Catrin’s head and into the Ross goal, meant they had to come back from a one nil half time deficit.
Ross’ second half performance showed much more determination and urgency with Martha, Millie C and Millie M linking well with Coruna and Hollie. Maisie, Millie J and Scarlett were solid in defence throughout and it was more of a cutting edge that was lacking in the Ross play. However, the final quarter of the game witnessed a transformation and several chances were created by the home team.
It was only a matter of time before the Vixens defence was breached by a cool finish from ten yards out by Millie M. With five minutes remaining, Ross took the lead as Millie M bagged her brace with another clinical finish into the bottom corner.
The drama wasn’t over though as a superb brave save by Catrin denied the resurgent Vixens their equaliser as she palmed away the ball from the oncoming Lad’s Club centre forward.
In the dying seconds, a finely struck Vixens corner required a towering clearing header by Hollie and the game was won, giving the Ross girls a much needed confidence boost as they target a third place league finish and look forward to a Shield final against Belmont in early May.
