Ross Juniors Under 9 girls travelled from Ross-on-Wye to Sudbrook, in Wales, on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19th. The girls were looking to take part in a tournament to test themselves in unfamiliar surroundings.

For many of the girls, it was the first time they had played in their correct age group, as it was an under 9 tournament. Many of the girls have been playing under 10 football in Herefordshire all season, as there is no under 9 league locally.

Two teams were fielded and they both did exceptionally well, with the Juniors winning six out of six games. In total, they scored 30 goals and conceded none. The goals came from Hannah (16), Eva (8), Amelie (4), Amy (1) and Alisha (1). Summer was in goal, and was always switched on and Isabel was like a wall and was great in defence.

A special mention must also go to the Colts who are a little less experienced in terms of games than the Juniors; they won two games, drew one and lost three. All of the games were competitive and they were unlucky to be on the losing side at times, dominating play and possession. They scored in total 13 goals and conceded five.

Paul Flitney, the team’s coach told the Ross Gazette:?“Every player could be very proud of themselves, so a big well done to Ruby, Jenna, Violet, Scarlet, Emily, Elsie and Immy.”
