Many of the Ross sports teams enjoyed success this weekend.

RUGBY

Ross RFC 1sts registered another win on the road last Saturday, ending with a comfortable 19-5 against Bristol Aero’s. The Bosse interspices man of the match was Ben Element for his crucial two scores.

Ross RFC 2nds were comprehensive winners at home to Hardwick & Quedeley, scoring 6 tries to win 38-7. Newcomer Matty Robertson playing at loose head was first to score, bumping off two tackles to in under the posts. It was a vast improvement from the Ross side compared to recent weeks. The Drop Inn man of the match was Matty Robertson.

FOOTBALL

The Midland Football League have announced that Herford FC’s away game against Shepshed will remain on April 30th, and the match will not be re-scheduled to 7th May, as announced by the Midland Football League on Tuesday, April 12th. Hereford FC are currently top in the league table, with 90 points, and Shepshed stand in fifth position, with 67 points.

In their best performance for several weeks Ross Juniors under 15s won a well-earned point in a two-all draw at home to Wolverhampton Casuals. Newcomer Matty Robertson playing at loose head was first to score, bumping off two tackles to in under the posts. Then with the last play of the match, centre Chay Brine broke through to time his pass to full-back Ryan Keating who went over. PJ Muldowney then converted. The Juniors were playing excellent football with Josh and Wilf both having especially good games in midfield.

ROSS Juniors U10s signed off the league season with a hard fought win against Pegasus Colts on Saturday. The Masons Fencing & Firewood Man of the Match goes to David Mason for a great defensive display.

Ross Juniors U8s played a hard fought game against a very good Pegasus side recently. Despite a slow start, the boys demonstrated that there are capable of battling, regardless of the opposition and score line.

BOWLS

THE Herefordshire short mat bowls winter league has ended with a return to a familiar scenario. After being dislodged for a season by their club’s B side, Woolhope A dominantly reclaimed their position at the top of the table with their 13th title in 15 seasons.

The final match of the season also saw Weston A gain the points they required to move out of the bottom 2 and leave Tarrington in the relegation places with Fownhope. In Division 2 Llangarron took the title after looking strong all season and secured the promotion spot that they have been so close to in recent years.

HOCKEY

Ross Badgers played their final league match of the season at home in the beautiful surroundings of Monmouth Girls School against a very skilful side from Cheltenham.

Captain for the day Amelia Adamson decided that the South Hereford Motorcaravans player of the match award should go Elysia Williams-Tettey for making her presence felt to such good effect in defence.

RUNNING

On Sunday, April 17th, Monross-Trailblazer members took part in the Spirit of Monmouth organised race; The Kymin Dash. The Kymin Dash is a challenging 7 mile race straight up to the top of the Kymin above Monmouth, and then back along the old railway track following the river wye.

Meanwhile, other Monross members took part in the Magnificent 7, organised by the Ledbury Harriers and starts from Eastnor castle. Again this is a very rural 7 mile run, which takes you up through woodland onto the Obelisk.

BOWLING

Ross Bowling Club enjoyed their first game of the season with the Ladies versus Gents. It was themed as a 'Fun Day' with clothing of red, white and blue, in honour of the Queen's 90th Birthday celebrations this year.

This game was a terrific beginning to the bowling season and the start of a very full bowling calendar.

GOLF

25 years ago, Becky Morgan was growing up as a teenager in Ross-on-Wye, preparing herself to become a Ladies Professional golfer at Ross Golf Club, which she achieved in the year 2000. Becky chose to dedicate her career to the US based Ladies PGA Tour in Florida, ultimately becoming a millionaire earner, and where she is still successfully enjoying playing at the top-level against players some of whom are half her age.

Becky returned to Ross recently to spend some time with her Step-Mum, Jan, and she also found time to take advantage of the facilities at the Gorsley based, Ross Golf Club and specifically in the care of the Assistant Professional Oli Leett.

Not only was Ross Golf Club, for the fourth year running named at No 1 in the Top 100 Golf Clubs in Gloucestershire, this being the Golfing Union to which it is affiliated, but is now in the Top 125 list of Golf Clubs throughout the UK.

The South Herefordshire Senior Golf Captain's "Drive In" attracted an entry of 50 members for the Greensome Stableford competition. The winning pair Mike Proctor and Mike Bain scored 37pts, and Jon Davies & John Harper were runners up with 34pts followed by Richard Hammett & David Houghton in third place on count back with 33pts.

RALLYING

Two weeks of hard work by Bob Morgan paid off when he took the Winner Garage Cinderford backed Skoda Fabia Evo to an excellent class win on last weekends Somerset Stages rally and finishing 14th overall.

SKITTLES

In the Roy Evans Memorial Cup the highest score was 60, held by Dennis Malley of Show us the Money, and the highest spare was 17, held by Barry Thomas of Roys Boys.
