Ross Juniors U11s chalked up another win but the 4-1 score line didn’t do justice to how dominant the home side were against Leominster.
Ross started well with two early chances falling for Blu, and then Eddie shot wide following a great cross from Sol. Ross went ahead from a corner as David sent in a great ball to the far post which Harvey did well to control and then thump into the back of the net. Ross continued to fashion chances, with Sol playing to Eddie, but a heavy touch enabled the keeper to snuff out the chance, and moments later Eddie saw his shot blocked on the line.
After making five substitutions midway through the half, they continued to play some good passing football and there was a great team move; from Roo’s short goal kick, Sol played a one–two with Bill to beat one player, then Sol’s pass down the left to Oli bypassed two opponents. Oli cut in and found Niall with a cross-field pass, who played a short pass to Jake. Jake returned the pass to Niall, sending him through on goal but the Leominster keeper did enough to put Niall off.
There were further chances which fell to Niall and Jake before Josh was called upon to make a vital clearance in the Ross defence. Before the break, Jake shot wide and Eddie had a shot saved when played through.
The home side doubled their lead early in the second half from another corner, with Oli finding the top corner as Leominster failed to clear the ball. David tried his luck with a good strike inside the penalty area and Ross were looking pretty comfortable until they made a defensive error which allowed Leominster to grab a goal. This seemed to lift the visitors and they threatened an equaliser but Theo made a great last-ditch tackle to deny their attacker.
Things settled down and Eddie created a chance for himself but the keeper made a great save to deny him. Then Eddie set up David but his shot was saved too. The Leominster keeper was having a great game and denied Jake but couldn’t hold his shot and Eddie followed up to put Ross 3–1 up.
Sol made a great tackle to snuff out a Leominster attack and then Ross had a host of great chances which they failed to take but Bill scored a great goal from the edge of the penalty area to make the game safe.
The Harley Finishings man of the match was Sol Hollis.
