Despite the inclement weather conditions on the day, Ross Golf Club’s members were treated to some high quality match-play golf when the respective finalists from 13 different knock-out finals set their sights on winning some silverware to complete their summer seasons in style. As is customary, most eyes were fixed on the Men’s and Ladies Championship singles matches played over 36 holes to determine the respective Club Champions for 2017.

Certainly Hannah Whibley deserved her place in the Ladies Final, having enjoyed a remarkable summer season in which her name finished top of several score-sheets in the ladies golfing events programme. She was also the Mixed Greensomes Open Champion playing with 2016 Club Captain Warren Moore. Her fine form reduced her handicap from 12 to 10, and making her first appearance in the Ladies final, she faced 18 year old Sophie Price who enjoys an eight handicap with the experience of being the 2015 Champion and runner-up in 2016. Fittingly the match was all square after 18 holes, and played in a great spirit, remained competitive until the closing stages, with Sophie claiming the title on the 17th green with a 2/1 win.

The Men’s Final also promised much featuring four handicapper Tim Wyatt and 17-year-old Ross Juniors Captain, Cam Haines who plays off three. An evenly matched contest was in prospect and so it proved over the first 18 holes with the match all square. However the second round witnessed Cam finding the putting form that had won him the Professional’s Prize in the Club’s Annual Huggett Putter knock-out final played 48 hours earlier.
