Ross-on-Wye Golf Club ladies section held their Open on Thursday, July 20th. A field of 140 ladies took to the course in teams of four. A team comprising of Ross players Fiona Lucas, Sally Fycun and two guests were the highest placed Ross team in the competition, making fourth place with 80 points.
On Monday the club were proud to host the Area finals of the Coronation Foursomes.
53 pairs competed in this prestigious competition having qualified from their own club’s competition earlier in the year. Representatives from clubs in the South West, Wales and the West Midlands took part with competitors travelling from as far as North Devon GC from the south, Bridgnorth GC from the north and Borth and Ynyslas from the west to name but a few.
The dry fairways and sparse rough, plus the excellent conditions of the greens, made the course a real challenge for the competitors and the recorded scores were on the low side. Even so most enjoyed their day out on this renowned and beautiful course.
The winners, with 38 points, were Barbara Beedham and Maria C Venn from Wenvoe Castle GC in Cardiff, who go on to the National final.
Ross was represented by Sue Johnson and Carol Smith who were in 15th place with 31 points.
The Club Stableford on Tuesday was won by 11 handicapper Hannah Wibley with 36 points and the runner up was Lorraine Fenner on 35 points.
On Thursday several teams represented Ross GC Ladies at The Worcestershire Ladies Open 4 ball Alliance.
Ross team, comprising of Pat Johnson, Mary Smith, Frances Nightingale and WGC member Lisa Digings taking second place over fellow rivals from Ross; Lois Price, Alison Harvey, Martha Norton and Dinah Johnston. Both teams scored 75 points but the former took it on countback.
