Ross Juniors Men’s team was at home at the Sports Centre on Saturday against Lydney Town and won 6 - 1.
Ross thought this would be a tricky fixture because of the talent of the players that Lydney could bring to the game, but Ross was soon off the mark. A great solo effort from Luke Harris, after just ten minutes led to the first goal. He ran down the wing to smash the ball past the keeper. Ross seemed to be controlling the game well in the middle of the park with Callum McCulloch and Dave Nicholls pulling the strings.
Callum Trotman soon had his first chance on goal, with a sweet strike hitting the bar. A few minutes later Trotman got his first with a header rebounded off the bar, after a McCulloch free kick just outside the area.
At 25 minutes in, Jack Bray was brought down in the Lydney penalty area by the keeper. McCulloch stepped up to take the penalty to make it 3 - 0 to the home side.
Lydney wanted to get back into the match, and they soon did, with the Lydney striker getting through on goal, but Bosco Barnett was there to make a great save.
After 35 minutes Trotman got his second goal from a McCulloch pass through the Lydney defence to make it 4 - 0 at half-time.
Just five minutes into the second half Brad Wooding had his strike saved by the keeper. Lydney kept on creating chances but some fine saves from Barnett was keeping a clean sheet for Ross.
Trotman got his hat-trick after 55 minutes play, getting on the end of the cross from Bray off the wing. Just five minutes later substitutions were made, Paul Wooding, Toby Alexander and Jaime Jones came on to replace Nicholls, McCulloch and Alex Malsom.
Lydney were still trying to get something out of the game and, with them putting pressure on Ross, they soon had a goal back, after Ross midfield and the defence switched off. This made the score 5 - 1.
The game went a bit quiet after that with Ross keeping the ball and making things tight across the midfield and defence. But the last goal came from a P Wooding run from the midfield. He got into the box and smashed it across the keeper into the top corner.
Rub A Dub Dub Man of the Match went to Callum Trotman for his fine hat-trick and all round display. This week Ross are away to Sedbury.
