Ross-on-Wye Juniors U10s Girls continued their fantastic start to the season with a 6-1 victory over Lads Club Pumas on Sunday, October 17th.

So far this season the girls have scored 33 goals and only conceded two, winning all five of their games.

The defensive unit of Caitlin, Maddie, Matilda, Mica and Eva, have given the team a real control in matches this season which has allowed the rest of the team to dominate matches. The Juniors defence has shown an uncanny ability to concentrate and get themselves organised before snuffing out any attacks and before playing the ball forward.

Striker Naomi, only in her second season with the team, has frightened opponents with her tenacity and her goals, although she turned provider this week, in a tremendous all round performance - dropping deeper to create space and chances for the midfield dynamos Cassie and Hannah (3) to give Ross a 4-0 half time lead.

Lads Club came back stronger in the second half and keeper Caitlin made two excellent saves before some miscommunication in the Ross defence allowed Pumas’ to score direct from a corner. However Ross responded excellently. Naomi again hurried the Pumas to create chances for her and her teammates. Macy and Alex drove the team forward and forced the Pumas keeper into good saves. Ross kept going and Lily and Eva rounded off the scoring.

Better than the results this season is the way the girls have played for each other. The build up for one of Hannah’s first half goals, on Sunday, saw every Ross outfield player touch the ball, keeping it away from Lads Club, before dispatching the chance into the net. It was a goal the England Women’s team would have been proud of.
