The Ross Walking Football Club made a valiant effort to win The Forest League in the final round of fixtures in Cinderford on the morning of Sunday, July 21st.

Four games were scheduled and the Ross-on-Wye team played brilliantly and won three out of the four matches, although still ended as runners up, just one point short of Newent.

They beat Cinderford 1-0 and Lydney 1-0, with Mike Walker scoring in both, and Ross had a 4-0 win against Coleford with two goals by Robin Fletcher and one each for Alan Essex and Nigel Lee.

Alas, Newent scored late on to secure an all important 1-0 victory.

The Ross side played with style and generally outclassed their opponents. Going forward, this thriving club can look forward to winning trophies in the future.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
