Playing in the Herefordshire Girls Football League Final in front of their biggest crowd this season at Pegasus, the nerves affected the under 8 girls as they started slowly in the face of a strong Lads Club defence.

Creating a few opportunities in the first half, Imogen broke away through the defence to shoot slightly wide. Amelia also came close, taking on a number of Lads Club players to shoot on target, but a lack of power denied her a goal. Captain Summer remained strong as ever, keeping her cool and successfully defending the attempts on goal made by Lads Club.

In the second half the girls returned with far more determination. Initially losing the ball to Lads Club, Sophie successfully returned the ball to Elsie who scored a spectacular goal. The girls quickly grew in confidence with Ella staying strong in defence and Niamh, although considerably younger than the other players, working hard to win the ball. Grace showed great potential, shooting just wide of the goal. Eventually, team work paid off and Elsie scored a second goal.

Lads Club Tigers did not give up and, after a strong passage of play, Ross conceded a penalty. Summer did her best to defend, but the ball slipped through her hands. A poor Ross kick off returned the ball to Lads Club but Faith managed a great kick, clearing the ball back upfield, away from danger. The whistle blew soon after to confirm Ross as the Herefordshire League Girls U8 Champions 2016.
