Following a five week lay-off due to floods and frozen pitches, Ross Juniors returned in resounding style with a 5:1 cup win over visitors from Redditch.

In difficult conditions, with a cold wind whipping across the pitch, it took both sides a while to settle into a rhythm but soon Ross were threatening the Redditch goal. The breakthrough came after 15 minutes when Joel found Owain in space and he calmly turned a defender before shooting into the corner to score. But the advantage was short-lived as Redditch scored almost from the re-start when a mix-up in the Ross defence left the visitors with an easy goal.

The Juniors attacked for the remainder of the first half but couldn’t beat the Redditch goalie who made a number of excellent saves. He was finally beaten early in the second half when a shot from Aaron cannoned into the goal off one of his own defenders.

From then on Ross were in command and goals from Jordan, Owain (his second) and Joel sealed a well-earned victory. Special praise must go to the Ross defence; Kane, Will, Billy and Wilf all had superb games standing up to a physical Redditch team and keeping their composure throughout.

All in all a great team performance that takes Ross Juniors through to the next round of the Midland Junior Premier League Trophy.
