Weston turned up at Sedbury knowing a draw would crown them league champions.

After beating local rivals, Ross-on-Wye, two weeks ago 3-2, Weston put their destiny in their own hands, but knew this team were not be to be taken lightly. This proved correct as Weston were 1-0 down inside thirty minutes, despite having the better of the play.

However, Weston got themselves back in the game and just before half time a goal came from Reed, which couldn’t have come quick enough. After stern words from their manager, Rich Weston, the team went back onto the pitch looking to prove a point, and with the back five of Max, Shane, Mike, Carl and Paul standing firm and putting their bodies on the line, they started to look at going forward, with Wes and Adam pulling the strings in midfield, feeding the front four of Innes Danny Jack and James.

Finally after banging on the opposition’s door, Jack came up with a nice finish to put Weston 2-1 up, and in the last minute Paul put the game out of sight with a penalty to make it 3-1, and help Weston bring home the league trophy. A mention must go to Stan, Darren and Zack who came onto the pitch and did their jobs well. To Dan, Chris and Alan, who were missing for the game, but who have been a big part of the squad all season. Also to Sammie and Rich who have kept the lads on their toes, and dealt well with 16 hotheads all season, who were always wanting to win and had some minor disagreements along the way.

After going toe to toe with Ross all season, Weston, who have only lost one league game all season, must take credit for all the resilience and passion they’ve shown to achieve this remarkable record.
