Ross-on-Wye Juniors Mens’ Side played their semi final in the FJ Pope Cup against Mitcheldean Reserves on Saturday, February 27th, and came away 4 - 2 winners after extra time.

Ross knew it would be tough game as Mitcheldean are a league above them and they have only lost one league game all season, but all players were up for the challenge.

Ross kicked off and passed the ball around well, trying to create chances to score, but the Mitcheldean defence was coping well with the pressure.

The first half was very even for both teams with neither able to break the deadlock. By the end of the first half, the score was 0 - 0.

In the second half, Mitcheldean kicked off with them making a sub on the break. After 55 minutes, Ross lost the ball upfield, which lead Mitcheldean to break and score.

Callum Trotman picked up an injury after that and made way for Jon Woodward. Ross kept putting the pressure on to get the equaliser, with Ben Gardner and Dave Nicholls both hitting the posts from Jack Bray corners.

Then finally, after 75 minutes, Bray had a throw in to Nicholls who then crossed the ball in for Gardner to get on the end of it to make it 1 - 1. Ross tried to get the winner, but the final whistle went to go into extra time.

Shaun Aston made way for Jack Jennings. With both teams still evenly matched, the keeper, Bosco Barnett, made a double save. The ball then fell to Alex Malsom, who passed to Callum McCulloch - who broke with the ball and played in Jennings, and ran up field to go one on one with the keeper. He hit it, and the ball bounced back off the keeper, and then he scored to make it 2 - 1 to Ross.

In the second half of extra time, Ross seemed to be in control now with Husbands and co working well at the back.

The ball fell to McCulloch and set Bray up, for him to dummy the Mitcheldean defender and score from edge of the box 3 - 1. Some sloppy play from Ross gave away another goal to make it 3 - 2.

Then Brad Wooding picked up the ball from 30 yards out and just hit it. The ball just dipped in past the keeper to finish the game off.
