On the morning of Saturday, 6th January, the pre-match warm up was to sweep the frost from the courts at Goodrich in readiness for the arrival of Hereford Whitecross ’B’ team.

First couple, Rachael Wintle and Kirsten Mathews had a good first rubber winning it 6-4, 7-5, and the second couple, Sue Harley and Carolyn Riddell also had a comfortable win, 6-1, 6-1.

Despite the cold, damp weather and several players still recovering from colds and coughs, they returned to the courts after a short break for a warming drink and nibbles to play the second rubber.

Again Rachael and Kirsten were successful dropping just two games to win 6-1, 6-1, with Sue and Carolyn taking a little longer, winning the first set 6-4, then going to a tie-break in the second set, which they won, which resulted in Goodrich picking all 5 points and top spot in Division 6 of the H & W Winter League!

Their next match is away to Woolhope on Sunday, January 14th.
