The final game in the Newent Summer League saw Ross play Stroud and a chance to end the competition on a high note.
In their previous match Ross failed to convert their numerous goal scoring chances. They were forced to settle for a draw. This time though Ross tookto the field with high hopes. The first goal was an own goal for Stroud. A Stroud defender unluckily diverted a Kristian Franklin driven cross ball into his own goal and opened the flood gates. The second quickly followed with Adrian Williams scoring from close range at the rear post.
The third goal, the best of the match, saw the put-in from a Ross short corner arrive at the top of the D. Andrew Ridgeway, took aim and fired a fiercely driven low shot into the corner of the Stroud goal.
The half time break provided no let up for the Stroud team, Adrian Williams passed the ball forward for Edward Goldsmith to cross across the front of the Stroud goal. Phil Evans managed to get himself mixed up with the defender and keeper and somehow in the act of falling over getting a touch on the ball. How sweet to have the privilege of lying flat out on your back whilst watching the ball cross the line.
Despite the protests of the Stroud keeper, who claimed that the acrobatic tumble employed by Phil had blocked his attempts to save the ball, the records show that a goal was scored.
The fifth Ross goal came from a typical Tom Walton run into the D before he released a strong shot which the Stroud keeper had no chance in stopping.
The final goal was Adrian Williams' second of the match. The only blemish on this polished Ross performance was the single goal scored by Stroud, from a short corner. The Ross defenders running off the line, un-sighting the Ross keeper led to the ball flying into the top left hand corner of the goal.
