John Kyrle High School have recently been awarded the Sainsbury’s Gold Level School Games mark. The award can be applied for by the school once it has been awarded both Silver and Bronze in previous years. Criteria for the award includes commitment, engagement and delivery of competitive school sport.

John Kyrle has a comprehensive sporting fixtures programme for students to participate in which includes both inter-tutor and inter-school competitions in a number of sporting activities. Many students who have competed at school level have also qualified through to regional and national level and there has even been international representation in the past in a number of sports.

Students are provided with the option of completing the Level 1 Sports Leaders Award in Year 10 and help contribute to the officiating of sporting events within school. A number of Year 9 students have also voluntarily joined the Herefordshire Leadership Academy and are leading and officiating activities at the Sainsbury’s School Games.

The year 9 students who took part in the Herefordshire Leadership Academy are Kieran Williams, Adam Davies, Xav Brevet, Alex Spinger, Aekudom Abbott, Katie Smith, Sophie Walsh, Heidi Knapper and Sophie Simpkins.
