The Annual General Meetings of Ross-on-Wye Golf Club’s Ladies section and the Club’s Men’s Seniors members both took place recently.

As a result, the respective Captains, Annette Mansie and David Williams were elected to take those in their care through the next 12 months. Ross ladies were delighted that Annette, who has been their Secretary for four years, could follow on from Rosemary Williams who has just completed a very successful year as their Lady Captain.

Rosemary handed over the reins to Annette on Monday, November 9th at the Ladies Annual General Meeting. Annette drove in her year the following day - on Tuesday November 10th. She hit a very good drive in front of a large audience of members to get her Captaincy off in great style. 75 ladies played in the competition of the day, with some great scores returned.

The results were:

1st - Katie Greenwood : Lois Price : Alison Harvey : Dinah Johnston

2nd - Penny Caves : Martha Norton : Julia Wilde : Val Watts

3rd - Di Honey : Chris Crane : Jackie Wheatstone : Jenny Freel

Annette has chosen St Michael’s Hospice as her charity for the year.

Annette, who plays off a creditable 14 handicap, considers it a privilege to captain such a strong section with 120 ladies with playing handicaps, which means that three ladies teams will be representing the Ross Club in the Gloucestershire Alliance plus a friendly match programme.

Annette will bring considerable experience to her role having enjoyed her 2001 year as Lady Captain at neighbouring Burghill Valley Golf Club, and she will have the encouragement of her capable and enterprising Vice Captain, Denise Laird and a highly supportive committee.

Seniors Captain David Williams has been a Ross member since 1998 and is an accomplished 13 handicap golfer. As a well known retired Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Wye Valley, David’s highly professional attitude and approach makes him tailor-made for the largely ambassadorial duties expected of him.

With the support of an experienced committee, which is responsible for all administrative duties and responsibilities, David and his capable Vice Captain Steve Martin will be able to enjoy and value the Seniors programme of events that includes 36 matches with other clubs across neighbouring counties.

With 250 men members over 60 years of age at the Ross Club, of which 170+ currently play an active part in the seniors arranged programme, David and his team will be looking to maintain and build on this sound position.

Both Ladies and Seniors activities are built around supporting the interests of their valued relationships at the Ross Club, notably those of Head Professional Tim Hall and his ‘School of Golf’ team and caterers Joanne and Richard Brown.

In terms of helping others, Annette has chosen St Michael’s Hospice as her dedicated Charity and the seniors will continue to hold fundraising events mainly in support of their Club Captain’s dedicated Charity, currently the Gloucester Multiple Sclerosis Centre and where the well being of their Ross Juniors Academy has also been a beneficiary in recent years.
