At the Ross Golf Club’s recent annual knock-out finals day and Trophy Presentation evening, members of the Gorsley based Club saluted a new name being added to their Men’s Club Champion Honours Board. Five handicapper, Simon Sharpe, claimed the title on his second attempt.
Joining the Ross Club from the Upton Bishop based South Herefordshire Golf Club in 2016, where he was Men’s Club Champion that year, Simon was considered the outsider by many at first. He faced 36 holes of scratch match-play golf against the more experienced two handicapper, Harvey Hancock, to decide the Ross Club’s 2018 Men’s Title.
Harvey has won a hat-full of trophies in his time at Ross, and was making his second appearance in the Men’s Final after being runner-up to James Morgan two years ago in a memorable encounter. It was noted by some though that Simon had succeeded in previous rounds at the expense of golfing heavyweights, Steve Wallbank, Alistair Watkins, and aspiring Ross Junior, Harry Griffiths.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
