David Williams completed his year as leader of Ross-on-Wye Golf Club’s Men’s Seniors members in the best possible way. Partnering his successor, Steve Martin, the Club’s Seniors Captain for the next 12 months, the duo’s 39 stableford points were just enough to win them the 16 holes greensomes event in which 27 pairings took part prior to the Seniors AGM and lunch.

Wref Digings and Phil Wilson, also with 39 points, were runners up, followed by a host of 38 pointers headed by third-placed Mike Harris and Graham Chick.

David Price was elected Seniors Vice Captain and Steve and David will have the benefit of an experienced Seniors Committee throughout the next 12 months.

Bob Tuttiett succeeds Stewart Ross as Treasurer and Andy Baldwin is a newcomer to the Committee. Administration will continue to be in the capable hands of Wref Digings as Match Secretary, Patrick Curtis is in charge of Information Technology with Keith Ray as Secretary and Tim Rigden, Hugh Elliott and Graeme Russell again providing specialised support.

Trophies were presented to Wref Digings and Elwyn Hamer, winners of the 2016/17 Patrick Curtis Winter League Shield, to Graeme Laws winner of the 2016 Layton Eclectic Cup and to past Club President, Neville Ovens, winner of the Over 75’s Cup.

Jim Millar was rewarded, to acknowledge the part he plays each week in seniors golfing activities and there was recognition paid to Graeme Laws and Peter Chapman for their summer season of achievements, in which both had scored hole-in-ones.

In his report as outgoing Seniors Captain, David Williams spoke of his year’s privilege in having represented a Golf Club which is in such fine fettle, where key roles are in the hands of various teams, notably those of Course Manager, Rob Wilband, Head Professional Tim Hall, Caterers Joanne and Richard Brown and Club Secretary Ian Griffiths.
