An excellent turn out for the Senior Captain’s Charity Day saw not only the members play some closely fought golf but they also raised a significant amount of money taking the total raised for St Michael’s Hospice to over £1000.

Colin Dick, who scored a superb 42 points took the individual prize with Martin Latham second on 41 points. The team prize went to Fred Cook, Steve Broderick and Colin Dick closely followed in second place by Phil Andrews, Mike Proctor and Jeff James.

Everyone involved was grateful to those organising the event plus the grounds and catering staff without whose efforts the competition would be far less successful.

The Men’s section held their Summer Cup where Tom Shotton continued his fine form throughout this season, to shoot 40 points in this Stableford competition. Second place was extremely tight as no less than 6 players finished on 37 points with James O’ Brien taking it on count back.

Over the same weekend the Men’s section also welcomed Monmouth Golf Club for a friendly fixture. Despite sweltering heat there was some terrific golf played by the home team who won by 5.5 to 0.5.

The July midweek medal was also played in excellent conditions and in both divisions the first and second places were achieved with net scores of 70. However, on count back in Division 1 the winner was Barry Howells with James Price in second place. Whilst in Division 2 the first place went to Keith Nind and second to John Duvall.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
