WHILE the Sunday morning weather conditions of the past six months have been typically challenging at Ross Golf Club, 2025 men's club champion Tom Shotton and Jordan Hughes worked tirelessly as 2025/26 Winter League organisers to produce a fitting end to the series.
The Gorsley-based club’s head professional Tim Hall said: “Winter leagues are the heartbeat of any golf club through the colder months.
“They keep us connected, keep us competitive, and give us something to look forward to each week. And Tom and Jordan have delivered that in spades.”
There was a tight leaderboard right to the end of the winter league, which is open to all sections, and was ultimately headed by Jon Morgan and Rich Clements, who found a way to score each week.
Billy Hazlewood and Jon Williams were their closest rivals, helped by a memorable performance in the final round, which resulted in them taking home the runners-up prizes.
The event organisers Tom and Jordan were properly rewarded in finishing third overall, and were delighted to have played key roles.
They acknowledged the marvellous support received from members, which resulted in the turnouts on most weeks being fantastic and reflective of the 'community spirit' that exists within members at the club's 'hidden gem' tree-lined course.
In saying farewell to winter conditions and on the eve of the arrival of British Summer Time, members now have the weekly Tuesday afternoon/evening 9 holes eclectic competition to look forward to, and which begins in earnest on March 31.
Tuesday eclectic champion Ian Bennett will be keen to defend the title he deservedly won last year.
And the club are fortunate to have Simon Phillips, Marcus McEvoy, Steven Gwilliam and Paul Vitale in charge of matters, in maintaining the associated spirit and good fun which have become an integral part in the event's success.
