SEVENTEEN teams of four players each took advantage of delightful sunshine and springtime flowers in full bloom to play Ross Golf Club’s men's seniors 55+ March Florida Scramble competition over 16 holes.
The quality of play was impressive and two teams performed to a standard which surprised themselves as well as their friends, which owed much to the quality of the greens expertly prepared by club course manager Dylan Stokes and his team.
The final score-sheet provided bragging rights and the day's top prizes for the team of Chris Good, Peter James, Stuart McLeod and Wayne Rees, whose net 48 medal score was achieved by everyone playing well and a round consisting of six net birdies and 10 net pars.
Runners-up were Paul Burry, Nigel Fullerton, Antony Graham and Tim Harrison, who also carded a net 48 medal score showing nine net birdies and seven pars, and they will have felt somewhat unfortunate to have missed out on the top spot on count-back.
Other performers worthy of mention were net 49 achievers Paul Dando, Peter Jenkins, Roy Millington and Scott Thomson, and net 50 scorers Jeremy Picton-Turberville, Charles Reeve-Tucker, Geoff Walsh and Paul Warwick.
The event was followed by a perfectly prepared lunch by club caterer John Devine and his team, capping a meaningful and valued occasion which was thoroughly enjoyed.
The seniors section now have a 16 holes Singles Competition to look forward to with 68 players taking part followed by another delightful lunch and their AGM, when Nigel Fullerton will be taking over as Seniors Captain from Doug Graham.
Nigel will be paying particular appreciation to Doug, who with 332 players in his care and by far the Ross Club's largest section, has masterly maintained that vital 'collective spirit' during the past 12 months in steering them through another highly effective year.
