Ross Golf Club were delighted to welcome delegates from the England and Wales (South West) region of the Professional Golfers Association
In the expert care of the Ross Club’s Head Professional, Tim Hall, and his Pro-Shop team, the ‘Casino Tours Abroad’ sponsored event with 42 golf club professionals taking on their singles stroke play medal round as part of a four player team with three amateur golfers, meant that an exciting and fulfilling day’s golf was assured.
The best performer proved to be Liam Bond, a former European Tour player who currently operates from his own Golf Academy based in Tiddenham near Chepstow. In a round which included six birdies, Liam’s four under gross par 68 was just enough to claim top spot followed by Toby Hunt of St Mellion, Joe Yorke of China Fleet and Ryan Pope of Exeter GC who all carded gross 69 scores.
In the team stableford event, with the two best scores counting, Ross member and a tee sponsor, Paul Vitale, playing with Richard and Ashley Chandler, both from the Gloucester GC, and their allocated Pro, William Farley of Rushmore Golf Club on the Dorset/Wiltshire border, combined with a team score of 85 points to win on count-back.
Ross members, Alastair Watkins, Murray Thomson and teenager, Matty Dobbs, were accompanied by Pro Jon Bevan from Sherborne GC in finishing runners up with Jon clearly benefiting from his Wye Valley experience as the following day saw him celebrate being the top Pro in the Minchinhampton GC regional Pro-Am in which 37 Pro’s took part.
Third place winners, with 84 points, were entirely Ross Club-based with Assistant Professional James Dobbs joined by teenager Timmy Fycun, Ross Club Chairman Peter Lawrence and Richard Tromans. The top performing ladies player was also Ross based in Dinah Johnson who has been in fine form of late playing in the 4th placed team alongside Tim Lewis and Roger Morgan both from Ross and their Pro Craig Melding of Neath Golf Club.
Tim Hall spoke for everyone in his appreciation of the support from Steve Dun Ross Course Manager, the Boucher family catering team and members from all sections of the Ross Club who collectively worked together so effectively as volunteers to ensure that the experiences of the 168 players on show were well remembered and the brand name of Ross-on-Wye Golf Club deservedly enhanced.
