THE president of Ross Golf Club – Phil Wilson – treated members to a very well organised Florida Scramble team event with a shotgun start, which enabled 24 teams of four players each to take part.
All sections of the club were involved, with the stipulation that each team needed to include a ladies member, which was very well received and added considerably to make a lively atmosphere throughout the whole day.
With support from Phil's wife Jose and their family, a 'Halfway House' serving Pimm's, cider, soft drinks and snacks was set up to entertain members as they played the 8th and 16th holes, which made it a perfect golfing occasion from start to finish.
Phil, in the second year of his three-year term as president, paid tribute to all those who contributed to the fun day and challenging competition which included Dylan Stokes and his green-keeping team, Head Professional Tim Hall and his Pro-Shop Assistants, Amanda Marshall who expertly managed administration, General Manager Hamish Mackay and John Devine's bar and catering colleagues.
A packed clubhouse to witness the prize-giving and celebrate the success stories typified the community spirit which has been engendered at the Gorsley-based Ross Golf Club over the years.
Club captain Joe Sutton duly thanked Phil and Jose and family for another fabulous day.
The team to hit the headlines this year and receive the main prizes with a remarkable net 55 medal score was Ruth Kirchmeier, Graham Jell, Steve Bartholomew and Simon Buck.
Four teams vied for the second place prizes, all with net medal 56 scores, and count-back decided that Ellie Teasdale, Phil Andrews, Bill Lawrence and Steve Bennett would not go home empty handed.
Individual prize-winners rewarded for their short game expertise on the par 3 holes were Wendy Ancrum, Rhian Garbett-Edwards, Nadia Stirling, Alex Harris, Ian Kitchiner and Andy Petersen.
