THE ladies from Ross-on-Wye Golf Club held their annual charity golf day on Tuesday.

Heavy overnight rain did not diminish the enthusiasm of the participants and a nine hole Bowmaker competition was contested by 72 lady golfers from around the three counties.

The winners on the front nine with 40 points from The Forest of Dean Golf Club were: Sophie Fuller, Gaynor Moll and Jackie Bradley and on the back nine the home team of Erica Atkins, Pam Duke and Mary Royston won with 32 points.

The Golf was followed by a Fashion Show hosted and compered by The Tim Hall School of Golf, showcasing this season’s golf trends from Green Lamb and Rohnisch. The models on the catwalk were volunteers from the Ross ladies section.

A raffle and cake stall helped boost the monies raised for The Midlands Air Ambulance, this year’s charity chosen by Ladies Captain Katie Greenwood.

“The Midlands Air Ambulance is essential in our rural community, cutting down vital time needed to get to serious incidents; we learnt that 5% of all their call outs are to golf courses. Coincidentally we saw the air ambulance fly over the golf course during our round on its way to an accident arriving long before the ambulances we heard following on some time later. It was a poignant reminder of how vital this service is in our rural community.” This service is completely run on charitable donations so Katie Greenwood was delighted with the massive £940.00 raised on the day; a great effort ladies.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now
