As the wild daffodils died back, the bluebells have emerged to create a shimmer of blue in the woodland areas between the fairways and the memories of winter golf are fading, as the ladies look forward to a successful summer season at Ross on Wye Golf Club.

On April 5, the first Medal Competition of the season was played together with the Little Weston Shield competition. Thirty-five ladies played and the winner was Jessie Wright with nett score of 72, followed by Helen Shaw in second place with a nett score of 74. Joyce Mackley was in third place with a nett score of 75. Ruth Pimlow had the best gross score of 92.

Sixteen ladies played in the Front 9 hole Stableford competition on the same day and the winner was Debbie Woods with 18 points. Jennifer Carling came second with 16 points, followed by Judith Landau in third place with 14 points.

On the 12th April, twenty-four ladies played in the H and J Salver and County Greensomes competition. Current Lady Captain Ellie Teasdale with her partner Victoria Northcott won with an excellent 38 points on countback from Sally Lawrence and Jessie Wright, also with 38 points.

The Back 9 Stableford competition on the same day, was played by June Savidge, who scored 16 points and Elizabeth Cliffe, who scored 11 points.

The Spring Meeting, Josie Powell Round 1 and the Bronze Lady Cup were played by forty-eight ladies on the 19th April. In first place was Ros Ashton with an impressive 40 points on countback from Katie Stooke, also with 40 points. As a result, Ros had a well-deserved handicap index cut from 24.7 to 22.4. In third place was Dinah Johnston with 38 points, followed by Rosemary Williams in fourth place with 35 points. Kim Williams was in fifth place on countback from Ruth Kirchmeier, also with 34 points. Ellie Teasdale came seventh also with 34 points and Lois Price was eighth with 33 points. Katie Stooke had the best gross score of 82 and the Bronze Lady Cup was won by Sheila Hatherall. Nearest the pin on the 7th hole was Hannah Keir, on the 9th hole Wendy Ancrum and on the 12th hole Ros Ashton.

The Kitcat Club Stableford was played on the 26th April with a field of 40 ladies. In first place was Di Martin with 36 points on countback from Sue Johnson also with 36 points. In third place was Sheila Hatherall, also with 36 points.

The Front 9 hole Stableford was won by Debbie Woods, continuing her winning form with 17 points, followed by Jennifer Thornton in second place with 15 points. Dorothy Rees came third with 14 points.
