Ross Juniors Sunday team beat Barrels away 3-1 in the HFA Sunday Cup. But this tells only half the story. At the designated meeting time there was a drastic shortage of players. A few phone calls and knocking on doors resulted in Ross Juniors managing to field a starting eleven.

With many players in unaccustomed positions and some making their first appearances of the season it was a surprise therefore that the away team dominated the early exchanges. They took the lead after 11 minutes when Harry Hall's curling free kick from 17 yards bamboozled the home goalkeeper.

Ross continued to create chances with the wide men Adam McLarty and Andy Francis creating havoc on the flanks. It came as a surprise therefore that, with almost their first attack of the game, Barrels equalized after 26 minutes.

Two minutes later stand in goalkeeper Ted 'Robbo' Loftus made a fine low save to deny the home side. Damon Beaumont was causing mayhem up front and his constant menace started creating chances from which he almost scored just before half time. Soon after, Chris Davies saw his free kick cleared off the line but the momentum Ross had started to build was halted by the half time whistle.
