The playing conditions for the 84 players that took part in Ross Golf Club's Annual Men's Open event were distinctly challenging, with the Course at its best, although playing very long for the time of year because of recent wet weather. In the circumstances the Club's lowest handicap member, James Morgan, who plays off 2, needed to be at his most effective to gain the top spot, which he did but by the narrowest of margins.

A fine start by James with three birdies in his first eight holes was followed by an uncertain spell at the ninth, James' ultimate gross 70 medal score was just enough to make him the 2012 Ross Open Champion. Visitor Stuart Hardy, another two handicapper and the event's 2011 winner enjoyed another outstanding round in carding a gross 70 score, but had to be content with the runners-up spot this time, on count-back.

Leighton Walker, the Secretary/Manager, who enjoys a three handicap maintained his current fine form to finish in third place with a gross 72. Other Ross members to finish in the top ten were Andrew Stephens, Brian Prosser and 13 handicapper Paul Cresswell. Paul's gross 80 medal score was particularly impressive as his nett 67 score gave him the runners-up spot in the nett section.

Another Ross member who would have been delighted with an exceptional performance was Malcolm Thornton whose 42 stableford points total won him top place in the third Round of the Club's Layton Cup for Seniors. He was by far the best performer of the 80 members who took part as evidenced by the chasing pack of John Allen, James Millar and Clarkson Barclay who all totalled 37 points each. Jim Orme scored 36 points followed by John Tecke and Don Meek with 35 points each, while Bob Howells took the honour and satisfaction of being the only player to score a birdie twice on the day.
