Dylan Menhennet, a Year 8 pupil from John Kyrle High School, claimed top spot in the Junior Boys Hammer event at the Hereford and Worcester schools athletics championships in Worcester last weekend.

Dylan, who was a school year younger than all the other competitors, threw a personal best of 34m 07cms to claim the gold medal, along with a place at the Mason Trophy competition. This is an Inter-counties schools event to be held in Birmingham at the weekend.

Several other John Kyrle athletes also performed strongly, including Emily Jarvis. Emily is a Year 10 pupil who improved on her own school record in the intermediate girls shot put event, with a throw of 9m21 to win a bronze medal.

On the track, Year 8 pupils Jake Ashley and Faith Robbins set new personal bests in the 800m and 1500m of two minutes 24secs and five minutes 37 respectively.

In addition, Year 10 student, Ellie Lown reached the final of the 300m, setting a new personal best time of 48.5 seconds. George Harrhy had a very busy day, making the finals of the Junior Boys 100m (12.4 secs), 300m (40.5 secs) and the High Jump (1m 45cms).
