A large group of athletes from John Kyrle High School competed at the Hereford and Worcester County Championships in Worcester on Saturday 10th June and came away with a haul of medals.
There were 25 pupils in the Hereford Schools’ athletics squad, Gold medal performances were well deserved from Adam Davies (Triple Jump and 80m hurdles), Emily Jarvis (Shot), Katrina Bennett (800m), Joe Thomas (800m) Briony Bishop (1500m) Otto Mendelsson (1500m), Ella Jones (Triple Jump and Long Jump), Charlie Price (shot) and Alice Hassan (300m).
A school record was broken by Year 8 pupil Indiana Sharp in the Junior Girls’ Javelin who threw a personal best of 22m 13cms to take second place.
They had earned their places in the county squad when they, together with another 25 pupils from JKHS participated in the Hereford Schools’ athletics trials. These took place on May 24th at Hereford Leisure Centre, on what had been the hottest day of the year. In difficult conditions the pupils performed magnificently with many recording personal bests, despite the heat.
All those athletes will now be training hard and the school wishes them the best of luck in future events.
