ROSS Ladies touch rugby team exploded on to the touch rugby scene as they competed in the first touch rugby festival of the season on September 30th in Bromyard.
Ross Ladies competed against six other teams from the Midlands and finished third overall. This was an overwhelming result as they went into the festival with new players, only four weeks training and no match practice. They came away with three wins, two draws, and one loss.
The first 14 minute game was against Stratford. Amber scored the first try before half time, and Stratford couldn't get past Ross' defensive line with fantastic defending from new recruits Alex Harrington, Lorraine Wadly and Claire Bater.
The second game was against Redditch and after quick bursts of speed in the second half Amber and Sarah scored to give Ross the win.
Droitwich, second in the league last season, were the third opponents. The ball was continually run back and forth with brilliant break through runs but Droitwich got the first score. Ross kept their spirits up and finally got a well deserved try in the far corner.
Ross then drew with Pershore before playing Welsbourne. Sarah ran away with three individual tries, Claire G then rubbed salt in the wounds with a smashing try to seal another win.
Finally, Ross played the hosts and reigning champions, Bromyard. The ladies were positive but they were running out of energy and couldn't keep the defensive line up letting Bromyard through to score three tries.
The Ross lady of the festival was given to Amber Probyn.
Ross Ladies are still looking for more ladies to come and play. All ages and abilities welcome to training on Mondays at Greytree sports ground, 6.30pm.
