Ross 2nds entertained Stourbridge Lions at Greytree on Saturday and put in a magnificent performance to win 19-12.

Stourbridge started brightest and won the first two scrummages convincingly and it looked like the Ross pack were in for a torrid time. However, Ross settled well and started to gain the upper hand with Tim Morgan, Billy Russell and Jason Oates out scrummaging their opposition.

Stourbridge took the lead midway through the half with a unconverted try in the corner. Ross hit back immediately, when No 8 Richard Russell popped the ball to scrum half Ian Phillips. He released to outside half Chris Gage who fed the ball to centre Pete Jarvis, whose timely pass to his outside centre partner, Jordan Marshall, saw him jink through the Stourbridge defence to score. Gage converted. See pictures on page 27.

Later, Ross had a succession of scrums deep in the Stourbridge half and from one of these, Phillips fed prop Ben Davies, who was unstoppable from 15 yards, to power home and score. Again Gage converted. The second half was set up to be a tight affair, with Ross pushing for a further score and Stourbridge looking dangerous on the counter attack. Flankers Paul Hayward and Duncan Conquoon seemed to be everywhere on the pitch, putting in tackle after tackle together with debutante second row Wes Parker.

Stourbridge got themselves within two points with a try under the posts, but Ross finished the game in style when PJ Muldowney raced away to score in the left corner.

It was a fantastic Ross performance and The Mavis Russell Cleaning man of the match was Wes Parker, who was always looking for the ball and timed his passes to perfection.

This week Ross 2nds are again at home to Westbury 2nds, 3pm ko.
