The opening round of the new Pirelli Welsh National Rally Championship provided mixed fortunes for local crews on a very tough Cambrian Rally last weekend.
The event offered seven tests totalling some 42 miles of fast and furious action for the 100 crews, including the forests of Elsi, Crafnant, Gwydir and the notorious Penmachno, plus the superb tarmac coastal headland road of the Great Orme.
It was young Rob Wilson who finished top local competitor in a new Ravenol, ASNU and RPro-backed Ford Fiesta R2. Together with Martin Haggett, he finished an excellent 25th overall, third in R2 and second Welsh junior driver.
