Monmouth School pupil and new Head of School for 2013-14, Will England, represented GB in the coxless pair at the Coupe de la Jeunesse which is a de facto European Championship just below the World Championships in overall standing. The event comprises of two days of racing with medals awarded both days and points accumulated towards overall trophies.
Will, who started his rowing career at Ross Rowing Club and his partner from Evesham Rowing Club, put in outstanding performances in a highly competitive event both days and on the Saturday won a bronze medal behind a very strong Italian crew and just a couple of lengths behind Switzerland. The heat was sweltering and it was certainly a challenge for all crews to keep hydrated and in top racing condition again for the Sunday - and Will was certainly feeling the heat. But Sunday was another day and they got on with the job in hand and once again rowed their hearts out to pick up another bronze medal, this time putting a lot more pressure on the Swiss in second place.
Their two bronze medals contributed to an excellent team performance by GB who took the overall event trophy and runners up in the boys' event.
