RUNNERS from MonRoss Trail Blazers joined a 300-strong field at at the first Herefordshire and Borders Summer League cross country race at Berrington Hall near Leominster.

The team placed 10th out of 26 teams, with Gavin Jones 12th overall in 29 minutes 37 seconds.

Richard Bevan was 42nd and sixth in the over-45 men’s class in 34.06, just two seconds and one place ahead of club mate Andrew Stephens in the same category.

Vanessa Ward raced home in 41.03 to place seventh in the over-35 women class, 29 seconds ahead of Lucia Demkova, who was sixth in the over-40 women’s section.

Sophie Williams finished in 42.53 for ninth in the over-35s.

Meanwhile, Rob Nicholls blazed a trail at Saturday’s Ross-on-Wye parkrun, finishing the 5km weekly run first in 18.30, 44 seconds ahead of Eastleigh RC visitor David Currie.

Club mate Gavin Jones matched Rob in the Milford waterfront weekend parkrun, coming home fastest in 18.18.

Fastest woman in the 74-strong Ross field was Chloe Elliott of Salford Metropolitan AC in 21.00 dead, while Trail Blazer Sophie Williams ran 29.03 in the Milford run.
