Pam Jenkins, life member of Ross Bridge Club sadly passed away earlier this year. She and her husband, Brian, were highly influential in local bridge, founding the Newent Bridge Club in 1973 and subsequently Ross and Herefordshire County.
Pam played for 75 years or more and even last year, her memory was outstanding and her card play sharp and astute. Bridge was Pam’s social life. Her generous spirit and commitment to the game had her playing with, and supporting many of the new members, as well as playing in all the big competitions. She was a true champion and will be remembered by the bridge community far and wide.
Pam became a Nonagenarian in 2013, celebrating at her favourite venue, the Ross Bridge Club. She played with her great friend Judith Landau achieving second place. Just a month later she was invited to the 40th anniversary of the Newent club to play with the EBU Club Liaison Officer, Andrew Urbanski and in spite of holding miserable cards, steered them both to victory as North-South.
Back in 1973, the early days of Pam and Brian settling into life in Herefordshire, they got together with a number of fellow bridge players and formed Newent Bridge Club.
It is inspiring that Pam was almost 95 when she passed away and Lily, who celebrates her 100th early next year, still plays a couple of times a week. See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
