On Sunday, Ross Rugby Club will host a 'Centenary 7s' tournament to celebrate 100 years of the Forest of Dean &?District Rugby Football Combination.
Combination secretary John Wood said: "When Ross opened their facilities at Greytree they made such a success of the opening that it seemed a good idea to host the Centenary 7s there. It's ideal. "The event is to celebrate 100 years of rugby in the Forest and raise the profile of the Combination. It's a strong Combination and the Centenary 7s event will raise money for the clubs and encourages rugby from youth level upwards. We're looking forward to it."
The Forest of Dean Combination is the annual knock out cup competition which has been played between local clubs for almost 120 years. Members of the Combination, Berry Hill, Newent, Westbury, Bream, Cinderford, Drybrook and Ross, will descend on Greytree for an afternoon of rugby 7s. Lydney, who are also a member of the Combination but are unable to raise a team, will be represented by a side made up of players from Ross, Newent and Westbury.
Ross Rugby Club President Brian Harris said: "We think it's an honour that we have been chosen to host the Centenary 7s. It gives the club a big boost and puts us into the picture as far as the Combination is concerned. Hopefully people will come along and we can show off how the club has developed."
