Ross Badgers travelled away on Saturday to Wotton-under-Edge to play a top of the table clash. With leaden grey skies and a biting cold wind, the performances on the pitch by both teams warmed the hearts of the surprisingly large number of spectators.

Unusually for this season Ross-on-Wye started the brightest and once on top never relinquished their grip on the match. It didn’t take long for Amelia Adamson to take full advantage in front of the opposition goal when she tucked away a classic poacher’s goal after some fine work from Luke Watts and Freddie O-Brock. In that one moment of magic she set the template for an on rush of sublime skills for the rest of the team.

Rory Calderwood and Dan Mills created and executed five exquisite goals between them. They will be a great loss to the team next season as they are set to join the seniors. But as always it was the diligent work from the entire team lead by Captain for the day Amie Jenkins, ably assisted by Laura Benjamin, Gregory Powell and Matthew Brown that definitively broke the hearts of the opposition.

In goal Elliot Smith showed yet again what an emerging talent he has become and was clearly disappointed not to keep a clean sheet. Whilst at the other end of the pitch both Archie O-Brock’s and Ella Burton’s goals should be dissected and cogitated by aficionados of tactical team play and then used in training manuals.

Captain, Amie Jenkins, decided that the South Hereford Motorcaravans player of the match award should go Bethany Randall for making her presence felt to such good effect in front of goal. Final score 8-2 to Ross.

The next scheduled Badgers match is at home on Saturday, April 16th with a 2pm start at Monmouth Girls School against Cheltenham. Before then, aside from a short break over the Easter Holidays, training continues at Monmouth Leisure Centre on Monday evenings from 7pm. Anybody interested in playing is welcome to attend, whatever your age or ability.
